STEM Valorise

Overview and aims

The STEM Valorise project aims to ensure that STEM research outputs translate into societal impact. The project is seeking to understand what knowledge, skills or attributes help PhD candidates to ensure that their work is positioned to impact on products, processes or services in the practice domain. Valorisation in this sense is broadly about the creation of value it can include but is not limited to knowledge transfer and commercialisation.

The project aims to:

  • Investigate the needs for valorisation and research-driven entrepreneurship training and collate best-practice examples across Europe
  • Showcase learning stories and experiences of the STEM academic entrepreneurs
  • Design a modularised valorisation training programme and the training toolkit
  • Pilot-test the programme and validating the toolkit among a cohort of the first stage STEM researchers

Duration

This Erasmus + initiative funded project commenced in January 2021 and runs for 24 months.

MTU Role

Extended Campus and Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence are representing MTU on this project team and are grateful to the researchers, supervisors, national agencies and policy makers who have contributed to the research to date. While MTU will contribute to all work packages we will have a coordinating role in the pilot testing stages.

Intended outputs

Through an exploration of existing practice and a shared identification of good practice the partners will develop and pilot a training programme and toolkit to support this translation process in early stage STEM researchers.  In addition, the project will result in a digital gallery of stories of challenges and successes offered by researchers.
