04 September, 2024

In June, MTU Extended campus and the Department of Physical Sciences were delighted to welcome ThermoFisher Scientific - Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division.

The technical team brought their latest in ion chromatography developments and expertise to Cork with a one-day seminar. The event took place at Munster Technological University Bishopstown Campus in the Nimbus Research Centre.

ThermoFisher Scientific welcomed those who use Ion Chromatography from various enterprise partners across Life Science, Food & Beverage and Tech Industries. The event also had a great attendance from our Physical Sciences colleagues who were eager to learn more about Ion Chromatography and its capabilities.

Physical Sciences have incorporated Ion Chromatography techniques (kindly donated by Irish Distillers; Pernod Ricard, Midleton) into laboratory practical’s to further support Chemistry undergraduate students, to expand their analytical capabilities. In addition, the Department of Physical Sciences have recently purchased a new ThermoFisher Scientific Inuvion system which will further enhance the learning capabilities of their students with the latest ion chromatography technology on the market.

The seminar was a great opportunity to welcome not only ThermoFisher Scientific to our MTU Bishopstown Campus but local enterprises too. A sincere thank you the ThermoFisher Scientific IC Dream Team: Becky Tuckwell, Dean Victory, Michele Musu , Wai Chi Man , Siobhan Curley, Doreen Webb

In addition a huge thank you to the Nimbus Research Centre for the use of their fantastic facilities for the event Dave O'Leary, Juan Francisco Martinez & Brian Cahill.

Also to Physical Sciences department staff involved: Donagh O'Mahony, Ambrose Furey, Elaine O’Keeffe, Ralph McCarthy, Fiona Ryan, Elizabeth O'Meara
