MTU Welcomes Eli Lilly Senior Representatives to Bishopstown Campus
28 June, 2022
MTU President, Professor Maggie Cusack and the Chemical & Biopharmaceutical Department welcomed senior representatives from Eli Lilly on Friday, 24th of June.
The visit marked Eli Lilly’s generous donation of an Illudest Distillation column which MTU has installed to the highest safety standards. The distillation column is equipped with the latest technologies and will form part of the laboratory educational suite for undergraduate and postgraduate research students.
Professor Cusack and Lorraine O'Shea, Plant Manager at Eli Lilly, delivered speeches outlining the excellence of the BEng (Hons) in Chemical & Biopharmaceutical Engineering programme at MTU. The programme addresses heavy chemicals, including oil and gas, and high-value products like pharmaceuticals. It also deals with issues like energy efficiency, waste minimisation and environmental protection- all in the context of safe and sustainable operations.
The programme has recently received full re-accreditation at M-Standard by IChemE (equivalent to a UK MEng degree), equipping MTU graduates with enhanced qualifications to work and compete in a global market.
Eli Lilly has recruited a further four MTU graduates from the programme this year, and we wish them well as they embark on their careers and extend our gratitude to Eli Lilly for their continued support of MTU.
