Clean Technology Centre Partner on The Kinship Project
15 February, 2022
The KinShip Project is bringing artists and communities together to develop a new relationship with Tramore Valley Park.
The former landfill site opened as a public park in 2019 and is providing the Kinship Project with the perfect location to alter our thinking about our relationship with the natural world, address the legacy of throw away culture and engage with new modes of managing waste.
Led by artist collaboration LennonTaylor (Dr Marilyn Lennon and Dr Sean Taylor) in partnership with Cork City Council, the project is also being supported by seven local partners, including MTU’s Clean Technology Centre (CTC).
But that’s not MTU’s only link with the project - since being awarded funding for the project, Dr Marilyn Lennon has joined the team at MTU Crawford College of Art and Design as a lecturer - becoming kin to both CTC and MTU!
Speaking about KinShip, Dr Lennon said: ”Thinking and acting creatively to address Climate Action is a challenge the KinShip public art project is taking on here in Cork city at Tramore Valley Park. I’m delighted to have the wonderful support of my new MTU community, in particular CTC and CCAD. I’m very much looking forward to working imaginatively together”.
CTC assisted with the initial funding application to Creative Ireland and will work with project partners to support and inform the planning, development, and delivery of The Kinship Project. It is also hoped that CTC will run an event as part of the 'Becoming Kin' aspect of the project.
The KinShip Project is one of 15 climate action projects in Ireland being financed by the Creative Climate Action fund through Creative Ireland in 2022.
