Week Two of Innovation and Enterprise Month at MTU Proves to be as Engaging as the First!

MTU Innovation Month provides industry leaders and community organisations with the perfect opportunity to collaborate with Munster Technological University and week two of the event saw no slowdown in tempo!
The week was off to a flying start with the MTU Empowering Women IWD 21 event. The online event well-attended and featured a panel of inspiring women, including MTU’s president Maggie Cusack. You can read more about this fantastic event here.
The Creative Digital Media Careers seminar series - introducing high-calibre graduates from Digital Media at MTU and their varied career paths - continued this week. Speakers included Matthew Corbett, Internal Communications Business Partner at TELUS International Ireland, and Róisín Garvey, Learning Technologist with the Department of Technology Enhanced Learning at MTU. Wednesday evening saw the kick-off event for the new Circular Bioeconomy South-West Cluster. This event aimed to raise awareness of the commercial opportunities and supports available for enterprises. Featuring industry experts and MTU staff, specialist panels discussed new initiatives that will put the SW Region on the global map for ingenuity and sustainability.
The second instalment of the Inspiring Innovation Masterclass series took place on Thursday afternoon featuring entrepreneur Dr Owen O’Brien. Dr O’Brien spoke about the implementation of a business idea, the importance of customers, and why business revolves around them.
On Thursday evening popular Cork influencer Shauna Doyle took over Student Inc’s Instagram story for a live stream. As a past participant of the programme Shauna spoke about the benefits she found from her involvement with Student Inc, paying particular attention to the expertise provided by trainers, investors and mentors.
Throughout Enterprise Month numerous competitions and exhibitions are taking place. The MAKE 2021 Exhibition is available to view until the 30th of March at the MTU gallery at 46 Grand Parade. This window exhibition is based on the human body and was developed by the Art Textile class MTU CCAD & Theatre and Performative Studies class, UCC. You can find out more about the exhibition here.
The Moments: Teaching and Learning at MTU photo competition, organised by the TLU and AnSEO, remains open for submissions until the 19th of March is open to all MTU students and staff and has a range of fantastic prizes up for grabs. You can enter here.
The submission link for TRUST will also remain open until Friday the 19th of March. The Human Rights & Sports Photo/ Video Competition is being run by the UNESCO Chair (MTU Kerry) & TRUST Project as part of the “Sport as it Should Be” awareness campaign.
