Better Days are Coming: Vaccine Rollout Begins at Two MTU Locations
02 March, 2021
GPs began the first round of vaccinations at MTU’s Bishopstown Campus on Saturday the 27th of February.
Approximately 350 people aged 85 and over from GPs from practices across Cork city and East Cork received their first vaccine dose at the clinic located in MTU’s Melbourn Building. The vaccination clinic will initially cater to older persons in the community, with more than 2,500 over 70’s expected to get their first jab in the coming six weeks at the MTU centre.
When vaccine supplies will permit, the clinic will operate as a community vaccination centre with the capacity to vaccinate up to 3,000 people per day. The centre will have 40 vaccination booths staffed by GPs and practice nurses and assisted by medical students by University College Cork.
MTU will also host another vaccination centre at its Kerry Campus in the Kerry Sports Academy, a tremendously positive development for the people of Kerry in the roll out of vaccinations. The HSE has said that it is very grateful to MTU for its support to the HSE in establishing theses vaccination centres.
These MTU vaccination centres in both Cork and Kerry are positive symbols of hope and of brighter things to come in the future.
