CIT Features in International Project in RPL Practice

06 October, 2020

Deirdre Goggin, RPL and WBL Researcher at CIT Extended Campus recently contributed a Recognition of Prior Learning case study to the Database of Good Practices in Validation and Quality Assurance.

This case study concerned RPL opportunities in Supply Chain Management (a programme run in NMCI and led by Dr Jane O Keeffe). This programme demonstrates the opportunity available to those with workplace learning and other formal qualifications to return to education and obtain a qualification building on their existing knowledge of the discipline area.

The Database of Good Practices in Validation and Quality Assurance is part of a Polish project entitled "Support to central government administration, awarding bodies and quality assurance institutions in implementing stage I of the Integrated Qualifications System”, and is funded within the European Social Fund.

As part of this project they are developing and implementing arrangements concerning the RPL and quality assurance in cooperation with Polish awarding bodies and external quality assurance entities that will operate within the Integrated Qualification System. The main aim of this platform is to show Polish awarding bodies good practices and to inspire them in designing their validation processes.

A variety of other national case studies have also been published on the site with contributions from:
- research institute - Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training - the validation process for Healthcare Assistant qualification
- central administration - Ministry of Education from France - the validation process for hairdresser qualification
- private awarding body - International Centre for the Environment, Resource Management & Sustainability from Scotland - the validation process for the qualification "Managing Waste Operations Transfer of Hazardous Waste".
