CIT's School of Business Work Placement

CIT's School of Business Work Placement

25 September, 2020

Every year, approx. 500 business students complete a minimum of 15 weeks’ placement with over 300 organisations located in Cork, the wider Munster Region as well nationally and internationally.

CIT's School of Business work placement has gone from strength to strength with all programmes now offering placement opportunities. This work placement has been positively received and supported by a wide range of industry partners and the role they play in our graduate’s education is  highly valued.

Today most employers are seeking experience and academic achievement to differentiate between candidates. Placement during a business programme allows students to gain organised and valuable working experience before they embark on a longer internship programme or seek out that first graduate job.

To produce a rounded student, the experience of immersion in a working environment is a key ingredient. Students gain credit for their work as well as having a solid opportunity to recognise and develop their work-based skills.

According to Dr Breda Kenny, Head of School of Business at CIT, research in this area reaffirms the perceptions of educationalists and employers about the importance of a placement (internship) period to the student learning experience. International research evidence overwhelmingly supports the contention that the completion of a work placement component is associated with enhanced employment of graduates.

Companies that employ our placement students range from small, medium to large and comprise private as well as public sector organisations.

Placement Process
CIT School of Business welcomes interested parties to contact us so we can aid you with fulfilling your organisation’s needs.

Each programme has a dedicated work placement coordinator who will oversee the placement process. This will ensure that each organisation receives the best selection of candidates to choose from and that the placement process is valuable for both the partner organisation and the student.
