CIT Students Nominated for Cork Digital Marketing Awards 2020

11 September, 2020

CIT 3rd year Marketing students Brianna Connick and Theo Gibbons are two of seven CIT students nominated for this year's Cork Digital Marketing Awards.

They will be in the running for ‘Best Digital Marketing Student’ along with Clara Janin, Pamela Kiely, Catriona Fenton, Megan Farr and Lynn Moynihan, numbering seven of the eight nominees in this category.

The awards, organised by Cork Chamber of Commerce, provide a platform for Cork businesses to showcase their digital successes and achievements. Annie FitzGibbon, Director of Member Services at Cork Chamber said, “The ‘Best Digital Marketing Student’ category acknowledges the importance of youth talent in a field that is inherently vibrant and fast-moving. At Cork Chamber, we celebrate the inclusion of students, and it is fitting that their input in the business community is recognised through these awards.”

Brianna and Theo, both studying for their Bachelor of Business (Hons) Degree in Marketing, have been working in industry as part of CIT’s 3rd Year Work Placement programme, which begins in January each year.

Theo Gibbons worked with digital marketing agency ePresence during his placement from January to August this year and is delighted with his nomination. “It is very rewarding to be recognised for something I am so passionate about and that I have put so much effort into. All the projects I’ve been involved in were extremely beneficial for developing my digital marketing and content creation skills. I feel that my work placement with ePresence will enable me to enter the modern workforce with confidence”.

"While working with ePresence, Theo showed a great combination of ability and attitude. From the start he worked well with all members of the team and was quick to learn. He showed great initiative when needed and also displayed a high level of resilience and flexibility as we worked through Covid-19. His work rate, communication skills and aptitude for Digital Marketing really make him stand out from the crowd." - John Brennan, Internet Marketing Consultant, ePresence

Brianna Connick was placed with Rowing Ireland and will continue to work with the organisation part-time during her final year in CIT. Brianna believes the Work Placement programme offered by CIT is an incredible opportunity and encourages all 3rd year Marketing students to embrace each week of their placement. “I am ecstatic and honoured to have been nominated for Best Digital Marketing Student 2020, alongside so many talented marketeers. I am looking forward to my final year of college and working alongside Rowing Ireland.

"Brianna is an incredible resource to our small team at Rowing Ireland. Our Strategy is #wewillexcel, and Brianna has taken on that ethos and work ethic. She is an excellent addition to the team. Brianna has created innovative and creative content to support us over a difficult time with the postponement of the Olympic Games and our objective of Supporting Clubs during this unprecedented crisis. We are delighted that Brianna will be continuing to work with us on a part-time basis and are convinced she is a worthy nominee and deserves the accolade of this award." Michelle Carpenter, Chief Executive at Rowing Ireland

Michelle Collins, lecturer and Placement Coordinator at CIT said, “Our students work incredibly hard while on placement and recognise the importance the experience has for their future careers. This year especially, they have adjusted to new working environments and have learnt to overcome the challenges in responding to the impacts of COVID19. I'm delighted that this is recognised in the form of two of the nominations being 3rd-year students in this category..”

CIT is now accepting job specs from companies interested in securing a placement student for Jan 2021. For further information please contact michelle.collins@cit.ie or elaine.obrien@cit.ie .
