Industry Professionals Guest Lecture Series

CIT’s Department of Accounting & Information Systems is hosting a series of industry professionals to present to 1st and 3rd year Business Information System students during Semester 1.
The guest speakers, who are CIT alumni, include four Business Information Systems graduates. They have volunteered their time to return to the Bishopstown campus and share their professional experience with undergraduates.
The visiting speakers will host two separate sessions, for both 1st and 3rd years, sharing their educational background, career path and explaining their current role and responsibilities within their organisation. They will also discuss emerging technologies and future trends within their sector.
The event has been organised to give students a practical insight into their career options and the variety of roles open to them after graduation. Dr Anna Dynan, Lecturer in Accounting & Information Systems, said, "It’s invaluable for BIS students to see first-hand how well CIT BIS graduates are performing in the industry.
“These sessions also give students a greater appreciation of the diversity of skills that graduates can pursue, as well as keeping them up to date with the latest trends and emerging technologies in specific sectors. Students welcome the opportunity to meet these past graduates and there is no shortage of questions,” she said.
The sessions will also have a practical element, with BIS student groups undertaking a written assignment based on the series of presentations, which will form part of their module assessments.
The series began on Friday, September 27, with a presentation from Gretta Jocyte, Development Manager at IBM and continued on Friday, October 4 when Roy Sexton, Senior Transformation Manager at DePuy, returned, 10 years after his own graduation.
Roy said, “It’s always an enjoyable experience to come back and meet the faculty and the latest cohort of students. I’m looking forward to seeing some of these faces in early 2020 when they come to DePuy for placement”.
The series continues for the next three weeks with John Ryan, Systems Engineering Manager, VMware; Conor Forde, Director EMEA Field Operations, Cloudera and Niamh Brady, Head of Data Operations at Poppulo.
