Intern of Marketing CIT 2019

Chloe Lynch, Bachelor of Business in Marketing student at Cork Institute of Technology has been chosen as Intern of Marketing 2019.

Over 90 students from the Bachelor of Business in Marketing programme undertook a 15-week placement with 15 students chosen as Intern of the Week throughout the placement period. From this, three finalists were chosen to be interviewed by Gillian Hennessy, PR and Marketing Manager at Triskel Arts Centre and President of Network Cork, who had the tough decision of selecting the overall winner.

Clodagh Cullen who completed placement with Lidl Ireland was part of the Campaign Planning Team. Clodagh’s main area of responsibility was in project managing the Mother’s Day and We Love Summer catalogues and with managing the Twisted for Jigsaw campaign. 

Shona O’Brien worked as a marketing intern with WhatSalon, a software company based in Blackpool. Shona was responsible for content creation, organising and executing promotional events in the UK and connecting with influencers within the industry.

Chloe Lynch the overall winner, worked as part of the Business Transformation Programme team at Vodafone. Chloe, keen to learn, took on an extra project in the Consumer department. This involved working on marketing campaigns to come up with creative ways to inform customers of fixed offerings defining the target audience and ensuring the appropriate messaging was delivered to allow for a personalised and tailored proposition for them. Chloe also put herself forward to be on the CWIT (Connecting Women in Technology) committee, allowing her to use her creative flare and great organisation skills to deliver events for different companies to encourage the promotion of women in STEM.

Chloe was awarded a prize of an annual membership kindly donated by Network Cork.

In choosing Chloe, Gillian commented that the standard was extremely high, and she was impressed by the work undertaken by the students and the amount of responsibility and trust given by each of the employers. It was a difficult decision but in the end Chloe’s energy, enthusiasm, ambition and drive shone through.

CIT Work Placement Coordinators, Michelle Collins and Elaine O’Brien, expressed their gratitude to Gillian in giving her time to interview each of the students and to the student’s employers for the fantastic experience provided. A special thanks also to Network Cork for sponsoring the prize of an annual membership.
