Dunkettle Interchange Project Showcase

Dunkettle Interchange Project Showcase

18 December, 2018

On November 28, CIT’s International Business & Marketing students Showcased their marketing campaigns for traffic reduction during the upcoming Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade Project.

Students made their presentations to representatives from Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Cork City Council, Sisk Engineering and members of the public.

The team from TII had previously visited CIT in October to give students their brief which was twofold:

  • To create a marketing campaign to promote the TII website and app, which will relay live information and real-time alerts to commuters
  • To come up with novel ideas on how to reduce traffic volume during the project.

Kieran Lehane from Transport Infrastructure Ireland thanked the students for their presentations at the showcase. “We definitely see ourselves progressing with a number of the ideas put forward”, he said.

Some of the suggestions included preferential car parking spaces for car poolers, ‘Tinder for Transport’ and a virtual reality drive through the upgraded interchange.

As part of the collaboration with CIT, TII will host a Business & Marketing student on work placement beginning in January 2019 and have also expressed interest in employing another student during the summer months.

Lecturer Sharon Lehane said the collaboration with TII was a great success and students were delighted to work on such a significant project for Cork and have the opportunity to showcase their ideas to such a big audience.

“It’s not an easy task to come up with marketing campaigns and ideas for reducing traffic during the Dunkettle Project. We've received such great feedback on the students' ideas, engagement and confidence, I can't wait to see their ideas in action.”

"These projects bring the theory to life for the students by allowing them to work closely with industry on solving real-life business issues. Live Cases help to differentiate CIT students by providing them with significant tangible projects to add to their C.V.s”, Ms Lehane added.
