Springboard+

25 September, 2018

September sees the return of the Springboard+ upskilling initiative at Cork Institute of Technology. Through the scheme, co-funded by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund, CIT offers courses at certificate, degree and masters level in areas where employment opportunities have been identified.

This year qualifications are available in Cloud Computing, Data Science and Analytics, as well as courses in Automation & Control, Biopharmaceutical Supply Chain Management, Cleanroom Manufacturing Practices, Biotechnological Manufacturing Operations, Validation Science, Information Design & Development, Capital Markets and Culinary Skills.

The practical nature of the programmes on offer ensures that students gain academic expertise as well as industry focus. CIT works with companies, and regional and national agencies, to identify skill shortages and employment needs. Programmes are then matched to address graduate pipelining and upskilling in these areas.

The HEA has broadened the eligibility criteria of applicants to Springboard+, with programmes now opened to returners (formerly known as Homemakers), previously self-employed individuals and those in full employment (employed participants on Level 7 – 9 courses will be required to contribute 10% of the fee).

CIT has also widened the net for prospective students by offering online programmes and blended learning options. This flexible approach enables those in employment, and individuals unable to attend campus lectures, optimum access to upskilling opportunities.

Employment prospects for Springboard+ graduates have been further enhanced by enabling employers to access graduates through the Springbord+ website. Once a company’s details have been registered on the website, employers can view details of courses and contact graduates they are interested in via email.
