We Are Cork
24 September, 2018
Cork Institute of Technology is among the key stakeholders who have joined forces to unite the Cork region under the We Are Cork brand. This approach, the first of its kind in Ireland, has been hailed by Tánaiste Simon Coveney as "a brilliant initiative to bring together under one banner everything that makes Cork great".
CIT and the region's key stakeholders including Cork City Council, Cork County Council, Cork Airport, Port of Cork, Cork Chamber, Cork Business Association, Ibec, Enterprise Ireland, IDA, Fáilte Ireland, Visit Cork and University College Cork are all backing We Are Cork as the umbrella brand for the Cork region.
Launching the initiative on September 17, Tánaiste Simon Coveney said, "The city and county is going to be the fastest growing part of the country for the next two decades and it is essential that campaigns like We Are Cork are initiated to make the most out of the business to be done".
In one of a series of videos for We Are Cork, Donal Sullivan of Johnson Controls discusses the benefits of having a global multinational company headquartered in Cork and the great relationship they have developed with CIT as the company has expanded.
Dr Orla Flynn, Vice President for External Affairs at CIT, said, "As a key stakeholder CIT is very proud to be part of the We Are Cork initiative which takes a ‘whole of Cork’ approach to promoting the wide range of resources and activities in our region.
“Our campuses are scattered across city and county: CIT Cork School of Music and CIT Crawford College of Art and Design in the city centre; CIT main campus in Bishopstown, the National Maritime College of Ireland in Ringaskiddy and our partnership with Clonakilty Agricultural College in the heart of the county, and this initiative can be embraced by all.
“CIT has always had a strong tradition of collaborating with the stakeholders involved, and the united partnership approach being taken by the campaign aligns very well with our ethos,” Dr Flynn added.
With €510 million in ongoing commercial development and a further €414 million investment in public transport and roads in the coming years, the Cork region is home to 158 FDI companies including global leaders Dell, EMC and Pfizer, as well as the world’s largest technology company, Apple, and 7 out of 10 of the world’s top 10 pharma companies. Cork has also been voted the top small city for business friendliness and the 3rd friendliest location in the world.
It is against this backdrop that the region’s stakeholders have joined forces to promote Cork city and county, nationally and internationally, as a great place to live, work, invest, study, play, visit and succeed.
