CIT Launches BA in International Business with Aviation Studies
24 July, 2018
The programme, the first of its kind in Europe, is delivered online and builds on pilots’ already substantial training and development, while also combining business knowledge and expertise. It has been developed in conjunction with the aviation industry, including considerable input from major airlines and from the Atlantic Flight Training Academy, based in Cork.
Speaking at the launch of the programme, Dr Pio Fenton, Head of Marketing & International Business at CIT said “The novel structure combines good teaching with technology. This particular programme is designed with an online-first mentality, which ensures a better learning experience. The simple intent is to ensure better opportunities for pilots with a broader contribution to the industry – in effect it will allow for the development of captains of business beyond the cockpit, while adding more value within it”.
The aviation sector plays an important role in Ireland’s economy and this programme seeks to address challenges in the industry such as pilot retention and ongoing training. CIT has developed a programme which reflects the training foundations and career trajectories of pilots who often have erratic working patterns due to the nature of their work.
The International Business with Aviation Studies programme recognises the extensive learning involved in becoming a pilot to a commercial level through a process called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The RPL process values comprehensive prior learning and through rigorous and quality-assured means, the programme equates this to years 1 and 2 of a 4 year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in International Business with Aviation Studies. This ground-breaking new course, applications to which are now open, acts as years 3 and 4 and are specially designed to deliver key content, skills and knowledge with a broadened perspective on International Business through part-time and online learning.
