Courses in Robotics, SCADA and Biomedical Device Manufacturing all started on that night with students from companies including GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Biomarin, Cork County Council, Alcon, Pilz Ireland, Dell, HSE, Boston Scientific, Wright Medical and Dunnes Stores.

These were in addition to new intakes in Project Management Techniques (Feb 1st) and a planned intake into the Level 8 certificate in Project Management (March) both of which are fully subscribed.

The next Lean Sigma Green Belt programme began on February 22nd 2018 and was also fully subscribed with 24 students. Our second intake of Lean Sigma Yellow Belt started on January 29th with 14 students and the next course is now open to applications for a start date of 10th April 2018.

In advance of these additional intakes CAMMS has 238 industry-based students studying part time programmes in Advanced Manufacturing, Process Plant Technology, Automation and Control, Lean Sigma, Project Management and Manufacturing Engineering.

The Biomedical Device programme was developed for those wishing to enhance their knowledge of the industry, but particularly those who might be seeking employment in or transferring into the Biomedical Devices Sector. The programme is structured around common medical disorders treated by biomedical devices manufactured in Ireland. The course is being delivered by Dr. Bronadh Lynch of the Department of Mechanical, Biomedical and Manufacturing Engineering, and Dr. Andreea Factor from the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience at University College Cork.

Katie Moloney, from Fastnet Recruitment, who specialise in recruitment for the Biopharma and Medical Devices sectors, presented to the class on Wednesday evening February 14th. Katie outlined current job positions Fastnet are recruiting for, in addition to passing on CV preparation and interview tips. Previous students on the programme have been successfully placed in local companies as a result of their participation.
