CAMMS (Centre for Advanced Manufacturing & Management Systems) is a Continuing Professional Development Centre (CPD) within CIT dedicated to providing opportunities for workforce development and personal upskilling.

The centre delivers programmes in Automation and Control, Lean Sigma, Project Management and Manufacturing Engineering. This year CAMMS ran the ‘Certificate in ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) Project Management (PM)’ course as part of the Springboard initiative (see elsewhere in this newsletter). The course ran for 10 consecutive weeks and is aimed at providing students with PM skills to take up employment and to engage in ICT projects immediately on entering the workplace. Under Springboard applications are invited from Jobseekers, Homemakers/returners and those employed in certain industry sectors. CAMMS recently worked with students from the 3rd year of the Bachelor of Business Administration as part of their public relations live team project. CAMMS Manager Mike McGrath and Project Coordinator Ciara Lavelle met with student groups outlining some goals and objectives for a potential PR campaign. The four teams then pitched their ideas to the CAMMS management team. Similar student teams are available to companies in the region who wish to have input into their PR strategy. CAMMS delivered a module in Operational Excellence for the Certificate in Supervisory Management run jointly with IT Tralee in conjunction with the South West Regional Skills forum. As part of the Christmas celebrations, CAMMS hosted their annual “Mince Pie and Mingles” event on the morning of December 12th. Thanks to all for coming and a very happy Christmas.
