Joint CIT/ITT Supervisory Management Programme

Joint CIT/ITT Supervisory Management Programme

15 December, 2017

CIT has partnered with IT Tralee in delivering a new Level 6 Supervisory Management Programme on the basis of upskilling needs initially identified by the South-West Regional Skills Forum’s (SWRSF) Manufacturing/Engineering Group at their inaugural round-table in December 2016.

The group of 25+ leading MNCs and SMEs from a broad cross spectrum of manufacturing sectors in Cork and Kerry is coordinated by Dr Siobhán Bradley (SWRSF Manager). The group highlighted their support for upskilling programmes targeting both operational and people management skills to support staff in/progressing into supervisory management roles. This support has been further corroborated by the Forum’s sectoral skills development work across additional industry sectors throughout the year.

Developed with industry input from inception through to delivery, the programme draws on the strength and expertise of both institutions and is a unique special purpose award of four modules [20 ECTs], two delivered by each Institute with the inaugural delivery at IT Tralee’s North Campus. The four modules are Introduction to Operational Excellence, Introduction to Management Practice, Performance Management, People Management (incl. conflict and mediation). The programme is financially supported by South Kerry Skillnets and South-West GNÓ and has attracted significant support from leading employers supporting their employees in progressing to supervisory/management roles.

Companies participating include Tricel, Dairymaster, Borgwarner, Astellas and MSL Engineering amongst others. The peer-to-peer professional learning of having multiple companies involved in programme development and subsequent participation has been highlighted as a major strength by industry. Equally the peer-to-peer learning from having a range of academic departments across the institute’s involved, including CIT’s Department of Organisation and Professional Development, CIT’s Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Management Systems (CAMMs), and the Department of Business at IT Tralee has also been highlighted and demonstrates the strength and benefit of industry education partnerships in co-developing and delivering upskilling programmes.

Pictured at the launch of the Certificate in Supervisory Management include senior staff from CIT and ITT, representatives of SW Skillnets and Skillnets GNÓ as well as the Manager of the South West Regional Skills Forum Dr. Siobhán Bradley.

There are preliminary plans to run the programme at CIT in 2018 with the possibility of a further run of the programme in Tralee also on the cards.
