Fundamental Movement for Children

14 December, 2017

Students in 3rd and 4th Year of the Montessori Education Programme in the Department of Sport, Leisure and Childhood Studies in CIT, delivered a Fundamental Movement Skills Activity Programme to 2nd and 3rd class students from Scoil An Spioraid Naoimh, Buachailli, Bishopstown, Cork.

The overall aim of the activity programme is to support the children in the development of their movement skills and sport skills in a challenging and positive way, through individual and cooperative activities. This programme also provided CIT Montessori student teachers, with the opportunity to engage with the children in an authentic way and to enhance their own teaching skills and professional capacity.

Thomas Broderick, lecturer in the Department commented that “engaging with the local community in this way is essential to enhancing the CIT student experience”.
