New Product Development Success for Culinary Arts Students

A range of innovative new food products developed by 3rd year BBS Culinary Arts students were on display in the Dining Hall of the Tourism and Hospitality Building at 12.00 pm and 1.00pm on Tuesday 25th April as part of their New Food Product Development module.
In attendance, judging the products and interacting with the Culinary Arts students were a team from Blenders accompanied by Artie Clifford, the Chairperson of Blas na hEireann.
Blenders awarded the following prizes,
First Prize - Meal for two in a Michelin Star Restaurant,
Second Prize – 100 euros,
Best Poster - 50 euros.
It is invaluable to have industry people provide their expertise through their opinions and feedback to the students.
Adrienne Rogers, Head of Enterprise at Cork City Local Enterprise Office was also in attendance. The Department of Tourism and Hospitality were delighted to have Cork City Local Enterprise Office and Blenders on board this year. The Local Enterprise Office fosters a local enterprise culture and provides a range of business support packages to small-scale enterprises. Blenders produces a wide range of sauces, stocks and flavours for foodservice, manufacturing and retail.
Rebecca O Keeffe Taste Cork was also present to give valuable feedback to the students.
Rubicon Team evaluated the New Food Products and provide a bursary to students to further develop their product.
Eddie O Neill Artisan Food Specialist at Teagasc, Moorepark was in attendance again this year and his feedback has always been very positive and constructive.
