Eat Healthy, Be Active, Have Fun

Eat Healthy, Be Active, Have Fun

20 April, 2016

Eat Healthy, Be Active, Have Fun. That was the message delivered at CIT’s senior staff breakfast on Friday April 15th by Mr Brian Cuthbert, Principal of Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh. Brian gave a passionate speech about the success of CIT’s Project Spraoi Initiative.

Project Spraoi is a primary school health promotion intervention. It aims to increase physical activity, improve dietary intake and positively influence children’s overall health. Project Spraoi is co-ordinated by the Department of Health Leisure and Childhood Studies in CIT. The project is delivered in the primary schools by a team of Energisers. Energisers support schools in the promotion of physical activity and healthy eating among the children. This is done a variety of ways such as leading initiatives, modelling classes and providing resources and training to the schools.

According to Brian, the importance of this initiative cannot be over stated. Both the teachers and children in his school have benefited significantly since the roll out of this project. Brian spoke about the improved learning levels in the school and the sense of real energy and managed competition that was of enormous benefit to the children. Project Spraoi is an excellent example of the engagement that exists between CIT and the broader community.
